The Great One is headed to Springfield in an upcoming episode of “The Simpsons,” making the hockey legend the first NHL player to voice a character in the show's 28-year history.
“We reached out to him,” the show's executive producer since 1998, Al Jean, told NHL.com. “We were looking for heroes of the winter like Santa Claus and Jack Frost, and there couldn't be a bigger hockey hero than Wayne Gretzky.”
Except Gretzky is real and really did score 2,857 career points.

Gretzky's appearance will come in the Dec. 11 episode titled “The Nightmare After Krustmas.” According to the episode description on IMDB, the central plot involves Krusty and his daughter spending Christmas with the Simpsons.
Perhaps in the episode everyone enjoys a diversion with a Stadium Series game at the Springfield War Memorial Stadium.
