Vancouver Canucks Re-Sign Defenseman Erik Gudbranson

The Vancouver Canucks Announced Thursday That the Organization Has Re-Signed Defenseman Erik Gudbranson.

After his first full season with the Vancouver Canucks that seen Erik Gudbranson play in just 30 games and score only six points, the Canucks have re-signed the defenseman to a one-year contract worth $3,500,000 million which may be a little high after the season he just had.

Gudbranson missed 52 games due to injury, he also recorded 18 penalty minutes and ranked second on the team with 2.2 hits per game and third in blocked shots with 1.5 per game. In Gudbranson's NHL career split between Florida and Vancouver, Erik has played a total of 339 games collecting 49 points and 364 penalty minutes.

He was drafted third overall in 2010 but Vancouver acquired him along with a 2016 fifth round pick when they sent prospect Jared McCann, a 2016 second round pick, and a 2016 fourth round pick to Florida.

Gudbranson was a very solid player in the OHL for the Kingston Frontenacs playing in a total of three seasons, tallying 79 points in 148 games. He also finished with a career minus-six rating. When it comes to the NHL however, Gudbranson has a horrendous minus 63 rating. In 2008-09, Gudbranson won a U-17 World Hockey Championship Gold Medal, and in 2010-11 he also won an U-20 World Junior Championship Silver Medal and also had most goals by a defenseman in the tournament with three.
