Maple Leafs sign Gustavsson to two-year extension

The Maple Leafs have signed goaltender Jonas Gustavsson to a

$2.7-million, two-year contract extension.

The team announced the deal on Thursday, keeping the 25-year-old

Swede from becoming a restricted free agent this summer.

Gustavsson had a tumultuous rookie season, undergoing two heart

surgeries and missing time with a groin injury before recording a

seven-game win streak in March.

He finished with a 16-15-9 record and a .902 save percentage and

2.87 goals-against average. He is Toronto’s nominee for the

Masterton Trophy for perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to

hockey.

Gustavsson is expected to join Sweden at the world championships

in Germany next month.
