The worst start in Columbus Blue Jackets history has reportedly cost coach Todd Richards his job.

The team fell to 0-7 after losing to the New York Islanders on Tuesday night. By Wednesday morning, team brass had seen enough, according to TSN’s Darren Dreger.

From the tweet, it appears the Blue Jackets have already hired John Tortorella to take over.

According to Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston, the Blue Jackets will send the Vancouver Canucks a second-round pick as compensation for hiring Tortorella. The Canucks fired him after the 2013-14 season.

Richards guided the Blue Jackets to the playoffs in the 2013-14 season, losing in the first round to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.

The team failed to return to the postseason last season, then opened this season with the lengthy losing streak.
