Steven Stamkos creates baseball cap drama at Blue Jays game

There's no better way to spend a summer day than taking a trip to the ballpark, and Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos did just that Saturday when he made the trip to the Rogers Centre for a game between the Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays.

But Stamkos was no ordinary fan at the ballgame. Toronto fans are on high alert as far as Stamkos, a native of the Toronto area, is concerned. They 25-year-old has one year left on his contract with the Lightning, and the hope among Maple Leafs fans is that Stamkos will spurn the Bolts and sign with his hometown team next summer.

Therefore, wardrobe choices for the game were a top concern. If Stamkos chose to wear a Toronto hat, it could have added fuel to the rumors that Stamkos might consider a return to Toronto for his next contract.

But Stamkos's hat was a bit of a letdown for Leafs fans, as he was caught by television cameras wearing a retro Rays cap instead. According to the Tampa Bay Times, Stamkos also visited the Rays' clubhouse after the game. Perhaps worst of all, Stamkos's Rays won the game, 3-2.

Sorry Toronto.
