Toronto Maple Leafs center Tyler Bozak received a late Christmas present Monday when the NHL named the forward its Third Star of the Week for the week ending on Dec. 27. Bozak highlighted the Christmas week with a hat trick against the Avalanche on Dec. 21, and he ranked second in the NHL in goals (four) and points (five) for the week.
Bozak has been on a tear of late, recording points in seven of his last eight games and has 10 total points in that time period. His production helped the Leafs to a 5-1-2 record through the past eight games.
Bozak's points last week came at opportune times for the Leafs. His hat trick against the Avalanche was the difference in the Maple Leafs' 7-4 win. The teams were tied, 3-3, entering the third period, but Bozak scored twice in the first seven minutes of the period to make it a 5-3 game, then added an empty-net goal with 3:40 left in regulation to extend the Toronto lead to 7-3.

Bozak also recorded an assist on a game-tying goal against the Arizona Coyotes, and he opened the scoring with a second-period goal in a 3-1 win over the New York Islanders. The center is tied for second on the team in scoring with 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) in 30 games this season.
