ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Chris Stewart had a goal and two assists, Frederick Andersen stopped 40 shots, and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Nashville Predators 4-2 Sunday night.
Rickard Rakell, Sami Vatanen and Andrew Cogliano also scored to help the Ducks snap a five-game skid (0-4-1) and get their second win in 11 games (2-8-2).
Shea Weber and Calle Jarnkrok had Nashville’s goals and Carter Hutton stopped 24 shots. The Predators, coming off a 4-3 overtime defeat at Los Angeles the previous night, lost consecutive games for the first time this season.
After scoring just 10 goals in 10 games, the Ducks broke out of their funk with their second four-goal effort of the season.
CANADIENS 5, JETS 1
MONTREAL (AP) – Tomas Fleischmann had two goals and an assist to lead Montreal past Winnipeg.
Paul Byron, David Desharnais and Lars Eller also scored for the Canadiens, who have a league-best 22 points (11-2-0) and remained perfect at home (5-0-0). Mike Condon stopped 18 shots to improve to 4-0.
Chris Thorburn scored for Winnipeg, spoiling Condon’s shutout bid with 6:03 remaining.
Michael Hutchison gave up four goals on nine shots for the Jets, and was pulled after giving up Desharnais’ goal early in the second period. Ondrej Pavelec replaced him and stopped 16 of the 17 shots he faced.
SABRES 2, ISLANDERS 1
NEW YORK (AP) – Sam Reinhart broke a tie with 6:16 remaining to rally Buffalo past the new York Islanders.
Matt Moulson also scored in the third period and Linus Ullmark stopped 29 shots to help the Sabres win their second straight and third in their last five.
Calvin de Haan scored his first goal of the season for the Islanders, who have lost three straight. The loss was New York’s second at Barclays Center in regulation. Thomas Greiss made 20 saves.
Neither team scored until past the midpoint of the second period. Both the Sabres and Islanders clogged the middle of the ice, limiting offensive chances mostly to low-percentage shots from the perimeter.
LIGHTNING 4, HURRICANES 3
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Ryan Callahan and Steven Stamkos scored in the second period to help Tampa Bay snap a four-game losing streak.
J.T. Brown and Tyler Johnson scored in the third as the Lightning beat the Hurricanes for the 10th time in the last 12 meetings. Andrei Vasilevsky finished with 31 saves.
Eric Staal, Kris Versteeg and Jordan Staal scored for Carolina, which snapped a three-game winning streak. Cam Ward stopped 27 shots.
Callahan tied it 38 seconds into the second and Stamkos gave the Lightning the lead with 1:06 left in the period. Brown and Johnson made it 4-1 before the midpoint of the third.
Versteeg’s snap shot pulled Carolina within two with about 4 1/2 minutes to go and Jordan Staal closed the scoring with 1 second left in the game.
SHARKS 4, AVALANCHE 3
DENVER (AP) – Brent Burns broke a tie with 1:39 left to help San Jose beat Colorado.
Burns made it 3-2 when he came down the right boards and sent a snap shot through traffic and past goalie Semyon Varlamov. The goal was upheld under review.
Burns also had a short-handed goal in the second period, Joe Pavelski and Joel Ward added goals, and Martin Jones stopped 23 shots. The Sharks won for the second time in seven games to improve to 6-5-0.
Pavelski had an empty-net goal 19 seconds after Burns’ second goal, and Colorado made it a one-goal game on Dennis Everberg’s shot with 1:05 left. The Avalanche pulled Varlamov for the final 1:05 seconds, but couldn’t get the equalizer.
Jarome Iginla and Francios Beauchemin also scored for Colorado.
