Montreal Canadiens Injuries Starting to Mount as Markov gets Hurt

Montreal Canadiens loose another player to the injury bug, and now it’s Defensemen Andrei Markov.

The Montreal Canadiens have announced that Defencemen Andrei Markov is hurt with a lower body injury. Markov left the game against the Capitals in the third period, and than the Club announced that he wouldn’t return. Hopefully, the injury isn’t too serious, and Markov can return soon.

Markov has been enjoying a very stellar season and has looked rejuvenated after a difficult season last year. So far this season Markov has scored two goals and adding 19 assists in 30 games. Markov has formed a great tandem with Jeff Petry and the two have been solid all year long.

Weber Injury

The Canadiens nearly lost another key defender in the game as well. Shea Weber blocked a shot during the second period and the puck caught the inside of his right knee. Weber immediatly looked like he was in excruciating pain.

Weber hobbled to the Canadiens bench and was hardly able to make it over the boards. Shea was grimacing in pain and than eventually left the game during the end of the second period. However, Shea was able to return for the third period and played solid as the Habs nursed a one goal lead.

Injuries Piling Up

The Canadiens have apparently caught the injury bug and are now missing key players at nearly every position. A couple of weeks ago the Canadiens lost Centers Alex Galchenyuk and David Desharnais to lower body injuries. Both players will miss at least another six weeks.

Then later that week the Habs announced that Defensemen Greg Pateryn would miss a couple of months with a broken foot. Also, on Thursday, the Canadiens announced that Andrew Shaw had concussion like symptoms and has missed the last two games.

Final Thoughts

The Canadiens will be in tough if Markov has to miss a lengthy period of time. The Injuries could force General Manager Marc Bergevin to make some type of roster move, or possibly a trade. The Canadiens are starting to look thin on their depth chart and will have to do something to add more depth.
