Messier named Canadian GM for 2010 worlds

Former NHL star Mark Messier has been introduced as general

manager of Canada’s team for the 2010 world championship.

Mark Messier was officially introduced Wednesday during a news

conference at the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Messier is as a special assistant to New York Rangers president

Glen Sather.

Fellow Hall of Famers Steve Yzerman and Wayne Gretzky have built

Canadian teams in recent years.

Canada has won back-to-back silver medals at the world

championship. It last won gold in 2007.
