Cuthbert, Leafs’ Phaneuf get married

We will just assume that Sean Avery wasn’t invited.

Actress Elisha Cuthbert married Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf on Saturday in Prince Edward Island in Canada. The reception took place at Phaneuf’s “giant waterfront estate,” as reported by WonderWall.

The couple, each 28, started dating in 2008 and became engaged last year. Cuthbert has starred in the TV series “Happy Endings” and “24” and the movie “The Girl Next Door.” Now, as husband and wife, they can comfort each other over recent professional setbacks. For her, it was the cancellation of “Happy Endings” by ABC. For him, it was the Maple Leafs’ stunning Game 7 loss to the Boston Bruins in the first round of the playoffs.

The two had a rather unpleasant public declaration on their relationship early on when Cuthbert’s ex, Avery, then with the Dallas Stars, referred to her as “sloppy seconds” for another player, a remark that got Avery suspended.

But on Saturday — as you can tell by the way they both are beaming here — that had to seem very long ago.
