Goaltender Ben Bishop is the Newest Dallas Star..For Now. The Kings Sent the Goalie to the Stars in Exchange For a 2017 Draft Pick in the Stars' Effort to Cure Their Goalie Woes.

Ben Bishop became an L.A. King this season but is now the newest name in the NHL's trade market. The Kings send Bishop to the Stars in exchange for Dallas' fourth-round pick in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.

The trade is a win-win. The Kings get a shot at another draft pick to pick up another young talent for their future and the Stars get a shot at fixing their goalie woes.

Bishop is set to hit unrestricted free agency this July but the opportunity to sign with the Stars prior to then might not be a bad idea. The Stars have a pretty sound team but had struggled a lot between the pipes. Bishop would have the opportunity to man the net for a budding team that might offer more promise than some alternatives.

    Bishop as a Dallas Star

The Stars finished 5th out of a wild-card spot in the Western Conference and hold a lot of promise as a budding team. Bishop would cure the Stars' ailing goaltending and could give them a shot at a competitive 2017-18 season.

Bishop would take over as Dallas' starting goaltender. After the Lightning chose Andrei Vasilevskiy as their full-time starter and the Kings acquired him as a buffer while Jonathan Quick became completely healthy, Bishop could get a lot of benefit from the stability.

Dallas gave up the fourth-round pick they acquired from Montreal in they sent Jordie Benn to the Canadiens. Therefore, the Stars ended up making out with some pretty good move when Bishop comes back around to join them.

    A Solid Move

I'd say this was a good pick-up for both sides. The Kings get a shot at drafting another youth and the Stars get a shot at fixing their goaltending problem.

In my opinion, it'd be a smart move for Bishop to sign with the Stars. He'll have a steady gig with a team who needs a player like him. He'll have the stability to join a new team for good this time and will have the opportunity to bring them a lot of future success.
