Facing Lightning on Sunday Dobes will patrol the home crease versus Tampa Bay on Sunday.
Impact Sam Montembeault will start against the Devils on Saturday, leaving Sunday's start to Dobes. Dobes has struggled in his last three starts, going 0-2-1, allowing 12 goals on 106 shots (.887 save percentage). Dobes won his first five starts in the NHL, and is 5-2-1 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 save percentage. The Lightning could give Dobes all sorts of problems as Tampa Bay is generating 3.49 goals per game, third in the NHL this season.
FEBRUARY 7, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Torched for five goals Dobes allowed five goals on 36 shots in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to the Kings. The sixth goal was an empty-netter.
Impact The Kings had a 2-1 lead through two periods before the game opened in the third, and Dobes couldn't keep pace. He's now given up 12 goals while going 0-2-1 over his last three outings. He's 5-2-1 with a 2.45 GAA and a .917 save percentage through eight NHL starts. The 23-year-old has played well enough at times to earn a little leeway, especially since Cayden Primeau had virtually no good moments during his time in the NHL to begin the season. The Canadiens have a home back-to-back prior to the 4 Nations Face-Off break with games against the Devils on Saturday and the Lightning on Sunday. Sam Montembeault and Dobes are likely to split that pair of tough matchups.
FEBRUARY 6, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Facing Kings Dobes will guard the road goal versus the Kings on Wednesday, Zach Dooley of the Kings' official site reports.
Impact Sam Montembeault handled the goaltending duties in a 4-3 win over the Sharks on Tuesday. After winning his first five games, Dobes has allowed seven goals on 70 shots while going 0-1-1 over his last two outings. This could be a tough matchup for the Canadiens to generate offense, but the Kings have scored just 10 times over their last six games, so Dobes may not have too much trouble.

Takes first loss Dobes allowed three goals on 26 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Wild.
Impact It took seven games into his NHL career for Dobes to pick up his first loss. He didn't get much help from his teammates on the first two goals. Alexandre Carrier knocked the stick out of his hands, and Liam Ohgren scored seconds later. Two minutes later, a defensive breakdown led to a two-on-one rush and to a Marco Rossi tally. Dobes has been a good story since being called up in late December, but the rookie has allowed 11 goals over his last three starts and lost two straight. Montreal has a two days off before beginning a road trip in Anaheim on Sunday.

Expected starter for Thursday Dobes is set to start at home against the Wild on Thursday, Eric Engels of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
Impact Dobes has a 5-0-1 record, 1.93 GAA and .933 save percentage in six appearances in 2024-25. He suffered his first career NHL loss Saturday when he stopped 40 of 44 shots in a 4-3 overtime defeat to New Jersey. Minnesota ranks 18th in goals per game with 2.92.
JANUARY 29, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
First loss of NHL career Saturday Dobes stopped 40 of 44 shots in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Devils.
Impact Dobes had been a revelation early in his NHL career, as he had a perfect 5-0-0 record with a 1.55 GAA and a .941 save percentage over the first five outings of his career before losing Saturday. Even with the loss, the fact that he stopped 40 shots is eye-popping. The promising 23-year-old netminder is still behind Sam Montembeault on the depth chart, however, so he won't carry a lot of upside as a backup, although he might be a solid option in some slates whenever he's called to defend the Canadiens' crease.

Tending twine Saturday Dobes will be between the home pipes versus New Jersey on Saturday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
Impact Dobes has been a revelation early in his NHL career. He is a perfect 5-0-0 with a 1.55 GAA and a .941 save percentage. The Canadiens are not pushing him as this will be his sixth game in the Canadiens' last 15 contests, as Sam Montembeault is still considered the No. 1 goaltender. The Devils are generating 3.06 goals per game, 12th in the league this season.

Remains undefeated Dobes stopped 23 of 27 shots in Sunday's 5-4 overtime win over the Rangers.
Impact Dobes struggled for the first time at the NHL level but was still able to come away with his fifth straight win to start his career. The 23-year-old had given up a total of four goals over his first four outings, and he gave up four more this time around. The Rangers were unable to hold any of their one-goal leads, and Patrik Laine finished off the game with the overtime winner. Dobes has posted a 1.55 GAA and a .940 save percentage at the NHL level so far. Those numbers are bound to regress as he gets more playing time, but he should have no trouble maintaining the backup role for the Canadiens, and he's played well enough to afford Sam Montembeault a bit more rest.

Tending twine Sunday Dobes will be between the home pipes versus the Rangers on Sunday, per Colin Stephenson of Newsday.
Impact Dobes has been excellent through his first four starts of NHL career, posting a perfect 4-0-0 record, .963 save percentage and 0.98 GAA. He made 32 saves in a 3-1 road victory over Dallas on Thursday. The Rangers have played well lately, going 5-0-2 in their last seven contests.

Newhook and Dobes propel surging Canadiens to 3-1 win over Stars

Alex Newhook’s deflection broke a tie midway through the third period and unbeaten rookie Jakub Dobes made 32 saves as the Montreal Canadiens defeated the Dallas Stars 3-1
JANUARY 17, 2025 • Associated Press
Wins again Dobes stopped 32 of 33 shots in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Stars.
Impact Dobes let a juicy rebound escape that Jason Robertson put behind him early in the first period, but that was it. Dallas poured it on the final two periods, outshooting the Canadiens, 26-13, but Dobes was impressive once again. He's won all four starts to begin his NHL career, and they haven't been cheapies. The rookie has taken down Florida, Colorado, Washington and now Dallas. The Habs have a home back-to-back set coming up Saturday (Maple Leafs) and Sunday (Rangers); Dobes should get one of those starts.
JANUARY 17, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Facing Stars Dobes will patrol the road crease in Dallas on Thursday.
Impact Dobes is a perfect 3-0-0 with a 0.97 GAA and a .959 save percentage to begin his NHL career. The 23-year-old has won all three games on the road, including wins over Florida, Colorado and Washington, not exactly the pushovers of the NHL. He will have another tough test as the Stars are tied for sixth in the NHL overall standings with 57 points, while averaging 3.21 goals per game this season.
JANUARY 16, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Bags third win Dobes stopped 15 of 17 shots in Friday's 3-2 overtime win over the Capitals.
Impact Dobes wasn't terribly busy but did his job in securing a third win in three starts. He's allowed just three goals on 74 shots since being called up from AHL Laval. Montreal is back in action Saturday when it hosts the Stars.
JANUARY 11, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Starting Friday Dobes will be between the visiting pipes in Washington on Friday, as reports.
Impact Dobes' NHL career has gotten off to a scintillating start, shutting out the defending Stanley Cup champion Panthers 4-0, while making 34 saves in his NHL debut, and following that up with a 22-save performance in a 2-1 shootout win over Colorado. Dobes will face the Capitals, who are averaging 3.66 goals per game in 2024-25.
JANUARY 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Beats Avalanche Dobes stopped 21 of 22 shots in Saturday's 2-1 shootout win over the Avalanche.
Impact After shutting out Florida in his NHL debut a week ago, Dobes shut down Colorado after giving up a first-period power-play goal to earn his second win in as many NHL starts. He's given up just one goal on 57 shots while taking down a couple of legit NHL powerhouses; the Avs entered the contest having won six straight and 11-3-0 since Dec. 1. The Canadiens discovered themselves on a six-game road trip, during which it went 4-2, beating Florida, Tampa Bay, Vegas and Colorado. Next up for Montreal is a home date Monday against Vancouver.
JANUARY 5, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Set to start Saturday Dobes will guard the road goal against Colorado on Saturday.
Impact Dobes earned a 34-save shutout in his NHL debut last Saturday en route to a 4-0 victory against Florida. The Panthers are one of the league's best teams, and the Avalanche are a similarly difficult assignment. Colorado is 24-15-0 and ranks fifth in goals per game with 3.46.

Earns shutout in NHL debut Dobes stopped all 34 shots faced in Saturday's 4-0 win over the Panthers.
Impact Dobes, who was called up from AHL Laval on Friday, shutout the Stanley Cup champs in his NHL debut a day later. Florida out-chanced the Canadiens (25-11), but Dobes looked like a seasoned veteran. In a corresponding move Friday, Montreal placed former backup goalie Cayden Primeau on waivers, and it looks like Dobes will work as the backup to Sam Montembeault going forward. Montembeault will start Sunday's game against Tampa Bay.
