Raanta turned aside 34 shots in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Senators.
The 30-year-old netminder took a shutout into the third period, and Arizona had a 4-0 lead before Ottawa even got on the board. Raanta has taken a back seat to Darcy Kuemper in the early going, starting only two games to Kuemper's five, but Raanta's 1-0-1 record, 2.43 GAA and .926 save percentage should earn him more work.
Raanta will defend the blue paint during Saturday's home game against the Senators, Alexander Kinkopf of the Coyotes' official website reports.
Raanta was pretty solid during his season debut Saturday against the Avalanche, stopping 29 of 32 shots, but ultimately suffered his first loss of the campaign in overtime. The 30-year-old Finn will attempt to pick up his first win of the season in a favorable home matchup with an Ottawa team that's gone 1-4-1 to start the year.
Raanta allowed three goals on 32 shots in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Avalanche on Saturday.
Playing in a regular-season contest for the first time since November of 2018, Raanta looked pretty good. He kept the Avalanche off the board for the first two periods, and he can't be faulted for the overtime goal after a defensive breakdown in front of him. After missing most of last season with a lower-body injury, Raanta appears to be set to challenge Darcy Kuemper for starts. Expect the latter to tend twine Tuesday in Winnipeg, however.
Raanta will start Saturday's game in Colorado, Alexander Kinkopf of the Coyotes' official site reports.
Raanta will watch Darcy Kuemper face the Golden Knights on Thursday before making his season debut Saturday. The oft-injured Finnish netminder appears to be locked in a near-even timeshare with Kuemper.
Raanta was recalled from AHL Tucson on Saturday.
Raanta's promotion comes as no surprise after he led AHL Tucson to a 2-0 win in its season opener, making 19 saves in the process. Now back in the NHL, the veteran netminder should see a sizeable workload with the Coyotes but will be challenged for reps by fellow veteran Darcy Kuemper.
