Whisenhunt: Titans standing by Justin Hunter

Published Jul. 31, 2015 12:15 a.m. ET

Tennessee wide receiver Justin Hunter faces charges in Virginia stemming from a July 3 bar fight, but the third-year player will be on the field when the Titans kick off training camp on Friday.

"Justin is here and he's ready to go," Titans coach Ken Whisenhunt said, via ESPN. "We've communicated with the league, we feel comfortable with where the process is and he'll be on the field (Friday) full go. We certainly support Justin and look forward to seeing how he progresses in camp."

Hunter was arrested and charged with one count of felonious assault in connection with a fight in which authorities say he broke the alleged victim's jaw. He was released on $25,000 bond.

Whisenhunt said he was unsure about any discipline the NFL might hand down in response to the incident, but indicated the team feels comfortable with Hunter's status moving forward.

"That's in the process and we feel good about where the situation is right now," Whisenhunt said. "But it's in the system and we'll see how it all progresses. ... We're supporting Justin and we feel like we're excited to have him on the field. There are a lot of things that are involved with the process and it's better for me not to comment a lot about it."

Hunter has a preliminary court date scheduled for Sept. 3.
