Report: Owens had surgery for torn ACL

Published Jun. 26, 2011 1:00 a.m. ET

Terrell Owens underwent surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

The star wide receiver, who played with the Bengals last season and is scheduled to become a free agent when the lockout ends, was injured while taping a television show, ESPN reported. Neither Owens nor his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, commented on the report.

Owens, 37, tore meniscus cartilage in his left knee Dec. 19 against the Cleveland Browns, ending his 2010 campaign. The 16-year veteran, who had 72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns last season, ranks second to Jerry Rice in all-time receiving yardage and third in receiving touchdowns.
