Titans want Mettenberger to take a page from Tom Brady

Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger threw a pair of interceptions in the team's 33-16 loss to the New England Patriots, prompting his coach to say the second-year quarterback needs to learn from the example of the quarterback he faced on Sunday, Tom Brady.

Mettenberger completed 20 of 28 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns in relief of the injured Marcus Mariota, but threw two interceptions on a pair of deep pass attempts. Titans head coach Mike Mularkey said Monday he'd like to see Mettenberger stop forcing throws and learn to check down more often.

Via the Tennesseean:

“You watched Tom Brady on the other side, and as soon as he recognized that a coverage took a receiver away, he’s off that receiver and he’s on to the next checkdown,” Mularkey said. “That’s what he’s made a living by. ... That’s what Zach has to understand and get better at. There’s nothing like game experience and game tape to show him that is what we want.”

With Mariota ruled out for Sunday's game against the Houston Texans, Mettenberger will get the start. In eight career starts, including two this season, Mettenberger has yet to lead the Titans to victory.
