Titans QB Mettenberger prepared to play if necessary

With Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota dealing with a sprained MCL suffered in last Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins, backup Zach Mettenberger says he's ready to play if called upon.

Mariota sat out of practice Wednesday, but said his chances of playing this week against the Atlanta Falcons are "pretty good." Nonetheless, Mettenberger said he's prepared either way.

"It’s the same mindset as every week. Nothing is really going to change for me this week. I am going to keep preparing like I am going to play and if that happens I am going to do the best I can,’’ Mettenberger said, per the team's official website.

It’s part of any back-up’s job (to be ready). You never know what could happen in the game. You have to be ready to go in and win a football game. This week is going to be no different.”

Mettenberger made six starts for the Titans as a rookie last season. A sixth-round pick, he threw for 1,412 yards, with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions in 2014. 

The 24-year-old completed 5-of-8 passes for 63 yards in relief of Mariota last week.
