Antonio Andrews embraces being the lead back in Tennessee

Last week, after taking over as Tennessee Titans interim head coach, Mike Mularkey said Antonio Andrews would be the team's featured running back moving forward.

Sunday against the Saints, Andrews rewarded his coach's faith in him, running for a career-high 88 yards on 19 carries and contributing 111 yards of total offense in Tennessee's 34-28 over time win.

"It feels good,’’ Andrews said, per the team's official website. “I feel I get better as the game goes on, more and more carries. Overall the offensive line was solid up front, and I was able to do my thing.”

Mularkey said after the game he was pleased with Andrews' performance, but said the two-year veteran needs to improve his work in short-yardage situations.

Andrews leads the team with 290 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Now that he has the starting role in hand, Andrews said both he and the team have big goals for the rest of the season.

"Our goal is to win out for the rest of the season, and this is just one brick for the foundation,’’ Andrews said. “We plan on winning out.”
