Struggling Bucs rookie Roberto Aguayo hits the winner after missing two kicks

It began in the preseason for kicker Roberto Aguayo, the Buccaneers' second-round pick who had trouble splitting the uprights. His problems haven't subsided in the regular season.

Aguayo came into Monday night's game against the Panthers hitting just one of his three attempts, and it looked like his misfortunes were going to continue. But the rookie came up big when it mattered most, hitting a 38-yard field goal as time expired in the Bucs' 17-14 win.

Despite the heroics, the game didn't start well for Aguayo, who made 88 percent of his field goal attempts while starring at Florida State. He missed a 33-yard chip-shot in the first quarter Monday night that would have given Tampa Bay a six-point lead.

With 3:38 left in the fourth quarter, Aguayo had a chance to give the Bucs a three-point lead but pulled his attempt wide left.

But Aguayo, who is now 4 for 8 on field goal attempts this season, leaves Monday night's game on a high note, helping the Bucs improve to 2-3 while Carolina falls to 1-4. Hopefully the rookie can build off his game-winner and turn around his season.
