Steelers sign general manager Colbert to 2-year extension

PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Steelers and general manager Kevin Colbert have agreed to a contract extension through the 2018 NFL draft.

The deal, announced Saturday, comes two days after the Steelers locked up head coach Mike Tomlin through the 2018 season.

The 58-year-old Colbert joined the Steelers in 2000 as the director of football operations and was promoted to general manager in 2011. During Colbert's time with the team, the Steelers have won seven AFC North titles and a pair of Super Bowls.

Steelers President Art Rooney II called Colbert a ''key factor'' in assembling a team that is coming off an 11-5 season. The Steelers reported for training camp at Saint Vincent College on Saturday. Their first practice is on Sunday. Pittsburgh opens the preseason against Minnesota in the Hall of Fame game on Aug. 9.
