Steelers rookie safety Gerod Holliman models game after Ed Reed

Steelers fans might cringe when they read seventh-round safety Gerod Holliman's answer to who his football inspiration was growing up.

"Ed Reed," Holliman told Steelers.com, referring to the eight-time All-Pro from the bitter rival Ravens. "We have the same style of play and he is known for intercepting the ball. Throughout my career I have been blessed to be in position to make plays on the ball."

While Steeler fans might've been expecting Holliman to answer with Troy Polamalu, Holliman was right not to mention the former Pittsburgh safety. The ballhawking Holliman led the nation last year with 14 interceptions at Lousiville, but the big knock against him leading up to the draft was his lack of tackling ability.

Regardless of his playing style, Holliman is focused on becoming a starter like Polamalu as quickly as possible.

"I just want to go out and work hard and earn a starting position and establish my ground right now coming in as a rookie," Holliman said. "Five to 10 years down the road I hope to establish a name for myself here and be mentioned with the greats."
