A week off did not keep St. Louis Rams tight end Jared Cook from making headlines.

Cook was the subject of a pair of conflicting trade reports by national media outlets on Sunday even though the Rams were on their bye week.

According to a report by Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, St. Louis is among two teams (San Francisco is the other) receiving "exploratory" phone calls about the availability of a tight end in advance of the Nov. 3 trade deadline.

Later Sunday, Pro Football Talk reported that Cook was on the trading block but, citing a league source, said the Rams are the ones engaging clubs in a possible deal for the seven-year veteran.

Cook, who was drafted by current St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher when he was with the Tennessee Titans, is second on the teams with 15 receptions through five games but also carries a weighty salary that will him $7 million over the next two seasons.
