Nate Boyer is fighting for a spot on the Seahawks' final 53-man roster.

It's a familiar script for the former Green Beret and Texas Longhorn.

He walked on to the Longhorns' roster as a 29-year-old and became the team's starting long snapper, despite never playing a single down of competitive football prior.

He's heard the critics before.

"Too short. Too old. Not big enough to protect."

"He said: 'I'm still going to make the team. You know that," according to Mack Brown.

Now he's competing against six-year veteran Clint Gresham, who recently signed a contract extension. Despite the odds, the coaching staff has been impressed with Boyer and knows he's up for the challenge.

"He's going to give you everything he's got," head coach Pete Carroll said, per NFL Network, "which is all we've ever asked of our guys."
