Seahawks release Nate Boyer, sign quarterback Jake Waters

Published Aug. 18, 2015 12:41 p.m. ET

Nate Boyer's story is well documented. A former Green Beret, who walked onto the Texas Longhorns' team as a long snapper, then signed with the Seahawks in May after going undrafted.

The club announced the release of the 34-year-old long snapper to clear a roster spot for a skill player. In a subsequent move, they signed former Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters in the wake of Tavaris Jackson's injury.

In two seasons as a Wildcat, Waters totaled 5,970 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and 16 interceptions, and 796 rushing yards plus 15 scores.

Waters will reunite with college teammate Tyler Lockett.
