Seahawks S Thomas: Lack of preparation made him play 'timid'

Published Oct. 15, 2015 10:57 p.m. ET

Seattle Seahawks safety Earl Thomas said he played tentatively in last week's loss at Cincinnati because he wasn't ready to play.

"I didn't give our defense a chance because I was playing a little timid because I wasn't fully prepared," the four-time Pro Bowl selection told reporters per the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

When quizzed by the media as to why he wasn't prepared, Thomas didn't have an answer. "I don't know," he said.

Thomas recorded two tackles and an interception in the contest against the Bengals, who rallied from a 17-point deficit in the fourth quarter before prevailing in overtime. He added that preparation affects his entire approach to the game.

"I feel like when you're prepared you're fully confident," Thomas said. "You can challenge everything. You're your best and you can really trust what you're doing out there."
