49ers' Tomsula expects ailing Hyde to play Sunday versus Rams

San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula expects ailing running back Carlos Hyde to be available for Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams.

Hyde has been dealing with a painful foot injury that he likened to a stress fracture, but Tomsula said on a radio show Tuesday that the team's medical staff does not think the issue is serious enough to hold out the second-year running back.

Since rushing for 93 yards in a Week 5 loss to the New York Giants, Hyde's production has dipped dramatically. He crumpled to the ground in pain in a game versus Baltimore on Oct. 18 and managed only seven yards on his last nine carries.

Hyde was limited to 40 yards on 11 carries versus Seattle last week and, when asked if he was dealing with a stress fracture, he responded: "Something like that."

Tomsula dismissed that notion the following day, insisting the team's medical staff would not put any player "at risk to further injure themselves.”
