Backfield in motion continues as 49ers sign Harris, release Cadet
With the status of running back Shaun Draughn uncertain, the San Francisco 49ers signed running back DuJuan Harris on Tuesday.
Harris joins his third team in one week. He was released by the Seattle Seahawks on Dec. 15 and signed by Baltimore two days later. The 49ers signed Harris off the Ravens' practice squad and released backup running back Travaris Cadet.
Draughn suffered a knee injury at the end of the first quarter of Sunday's 24-14 loss to Cincinnati. He was making his sixth start of the season after signing with San Francisco on Nov. 2 after Reggie Bush and rookie Mike Davis were injured one day earlier.
Harris appeared in two games with the Seahawks, rushing for 42 yards on 18 carries against the Ravens on Dec. 13 after rookie Thomas Rawls sustained a broken ankle. Harris committed a fumble inside the 5-yard line and was waived two days later.
The 49ers elected to sign Harris rather than promote running back Jarryd Hayne, the former Australian rugby star who started the season as the team's punt returner but has been on the practice squad since early November. Kendall Gaskins is the only other running back on the active roster.
The #49ers signed RB DuJuan Harris from Ravens practice squad; waived RB Travaris Cadet. Mike Davis to resume practicing this week.
