Reports: With SB XLVII rematch looming, 49ers RB Hyde leaves practice

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 6:33 p.m. ET

In a season of lowlights, one bright spot for the San Francisco 49ers thus far is running back Carlos Hyde.

The second-year player burst onto the scene in Week 1 with a 168-yard, two-touchdown effort against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night. Then last Sunday night, on the road against the Giants and again on national television, he had 93 yards and a score and nearly led the 49ers to the upset win.

In all, Hyde enters Week 6 seventh in the NFL with 375 yards on the ground. But if 1-4 San Francisco is to right the ship this weekend against the Baltimore Ravens, they may have to do it without its best offensive player.

According to multiple reports, Hyde left 49ers practice early Thursday due to an issue with his foot and did not return. This is on the heels of Hyde missing a practice for the first time this season on Wednesday. And during the game against the Giants, Hyde walked off the field briefly multiple times favoring his leg or foot.

What’s more for the 49ers, backup Reggie Bush missed Thursday’s practice with a calf strain.

But also on Thursday, the San Jose Mercury News reported that San Francisco offensive coordinator Geep Chryst “alluded to Hyde possibly resting during the week and then coming out strong on game days.”
