Report: Chargers unlikely to move on from GM Tom Telesco

Published Nov. 16, 2015 8:18 p.m. ET

The Chargers roster Tom Telesco assembled for this season is in a current state of disrepair.

Ownership is unlikely to hold the general manager accountable for it, though. According to U-T San Diego's Kevin Acee, Telesco will likely return after a truly disappointing year.

Telesco's stock has dropped precipitously from his debut season -- a year which saw the Bolts rebound from 4-12 to AFC Divisional Round participants. He contributed to the turnaround by adding players like Danny Woodhead and drafting third-round receiver Keenan Allen.

He then supplemented that talented roster with abject busts like cornerback Derek Cox and kick returner Jacoby Jones. He gave a gigantic contract to disappointing veteran linebacker Donald Butler. And he largely ignored a depth chart with needs in the trenches to draft a running back in 2015.

It gets worse. Telesco picked a fight with star safety Eric Weddle and all but assured he'd leave this summer. He also considered trading franchise quarterback Philip Rivers.

Yet the Chargers will actually reward Telesco for those questionable decisions. After all, he'll likely command a top-five selection in 2016.
