Mike McCoy doesn't expect a bye week Chargers coaching change

A handful of other struggling franchises have made coaching changes already this season.

But the Chargers might not go that route during their bye week -- despite the advantage a proactive divorce from Mike McCoy could bring.

“I’m working extremely hard, day in and day out, to figure this thing out and turn it around,” McCoy told ESPN's Eric D. Williams.

He doesn't sound like a coach who could lose his job at any moment. That might not be how the Chargers operate; they waited to fire lesser head coaches like Norv Turner in eras past.

The seat is warm nonetheless. The Chargers own the AFC's worst record, and despite McCoy's best efforts, those teams generally look elsewhere for leadership.

“I have a burning desire to win,” McCoy said. “And to represent the organization as the leader of the organization, I have burning desire to do whatever it takes to win.”
