Rod Marinelli on Sean Lee: He's a ball of energy and excitement

For Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, seeing linebacker Sean Lee on the practice field is something he's not completely familiar with. Although Lee has been with the team since 2010, his 2014 season was cut short by a torn ACL he suffered last May during the team's OTAs. Marinelli gets excited thinking about what kind of things he can with his defense, in his second year as coordinator, with Lee back in the lineup.

"He's a ball of energy and excitement and that represents who we are," Marinelli said, per Jon Machota of The Dallas Morning News. "He's moving well. We're just being smart as we get him ready to go. But he's got a lot of good quality work in."

The Cowboys and Lee will take things slow with his recovery. Unlike other returning players, Lee won't need all of the repetitions to hammer down the mental aspect of learning Marinelli's defense. Lee is dedicated to that side of things when it comes to football, and he can master Marinelli's defense off the field.

"He is the team nerd. He knows everything on defense," said defensive lineman Jeremy Mincey. "I love that about him. If he doesn't know something, he asks a question. That's the best way to get any kind of knowledge. That's the type of kid he is. We all feed off him."

Lee will not be playing the middle linebacker spot for the first time since joining the Cowboys. In an effort to keep him healthier and allow him to better utilize his speed, Lee will be moving to weakside linebacker.
