The Buffalo Bills have totaled 58 penalties over four games this season, and head coach Rex Ryan isn’t a bit happy about this stat.

Therefore, Ryan is cracking down on his team, “or whatever.”

“If a guy gets a penalty during the practices, then we’re gonna make sure that all of us are gonna do 10 push-ups or whatever,” Ryan said Wednesday, via ESPN.com. “The rest of the team will (do push-ups) and that person (being penalized) will stand up, just to see how many people he is affecting.”

Of the Bills’ 58 penalties called this season, 46 of them have been accepted. If they stay on this pace, they would break the NFL record for penalties accepted in one season. The flags thrown have included 13 incidents of unsportsmanlike conduct, taunting or unnecessary roughness. No other NFL team has more than six in this category.

Ryan acknowledged that penalties will still happen but knows they have to limit them — especially the “self-inflicted ones.” Ryan’s crack-down technique of implementing push-ups isn’t the only time he has utilized such a practice. There were a couple of occasions when he coached for the New York Jets that he used the push-up punishment for the same reasons, as we’re seeing now.

Ryan had previously stated that he wanted to “build a “bully” and by the looks of this report, his players are following his command.
