Report: Philadelphia Eagles to target Kenny Stills in free agency

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:31 a.m. ET

The Philadelphia Eagles could push hard for Kenny Stills if he becomes a free agent.

One of the Philadelphia Eagles‘ top priorities this offseason will be to find a reliable wide receiver. The Eagles’ receiving corps was dreadfully bad in 2016, playing a large role in the team’s downward spiral after a 3-0 start to the season.

With players such as Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Terrelle Pryor set to hit the open market, the Eagles will have every opportunity to find their next big-play wideout. However, a report by NJ.com’s Eliot Shorr-Parks suggests the Eagles could have their sights set on a different free agent receiver.

According to Shorr-Parks, the Eagles plan to target Miami Dolphins wideout Kenny Stills if he becomes a free agent in March. The Dolphins want to re-sign Stills and, according to Dolphins general manager Chris Grier, it is “important” that they have him back in 2017.

Stills was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round (144th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. The 24-year-old receiver spent his first two professional seasons in New Orleans before being traded to the Dolphins in 2015. In four years, Stills has recorded 164 receptions for 2,738 yards and 20 touchdowns.

While Stills has never surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in a season, he is a noted speedster with the ability to take the top off opposing defenses. He is a very good deep threat who creates a lot of big-play opportunities. However, he has showed no indication of being a true No. 1 receiver in the NFL. If the Eagles are targeting Stills hoping that he can carry their receiving corps, that is a bit of a concern.

The free agency period will begin at 4 p.m. on March 9 and the Eagles are expected to begin their salary cap purge sooner rather than later.
