Report: Cowboys sign TE Jason Witten to four-year extension

Jason Witten is one of the longest tenured players in the NFL, and he’s going to be around for a while longer. According to ESPN, the Cowboys signed him to a four-year extension, which keeps him in Dallas through 2021.

Witten had one year left on his contract, but his cap hit was $12.2 million. This new extension likely lowers his cap number in 2017 to a more manageable amount, which gives Dallas some additional spending money.

Witten, 34, has been one of the most consistent players in all of football since he came into the league in 2003. He’s missed only one game in his career, which came in his rookie season, and has caught at least 64 passes each season since 2004.

He's a 10-time Pro Bowl selection and a two-time first-team All-Pro, but Witten still doesn't have a Super Bowl ring. Retiring before he gets one won't keep him out of the Hall of Fame, but it would add a bit to his career resume.

Witten currently has 11,888 career receiving yards, which ranks 27th all-time.
