Redskins at Cowboys: Highlights, score and recap

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

Thanksgiving Day will feature an NFC East matchup between the first place Dallas Cowboys and the 6-3-1 Washington Redskins.

In an NFC East battle, the Washington Redskins will head to Dallas to take on the first place Cowboys. The Cowboys have not lost since Week 1, featuring two incredible rookies on offense who are leading the way. Quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott are both in the conversation for MVP this season, and they have Dallas firmly planted atop the NFC East.

Washington has also played some great football as of late and have lost only one time in the last nine weeks. Quarterback Kirk Cousins continues to prove to the organization that he is the long-term answer at the position, and the team is fresh off a dominating performance against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night. This game is sure to feature a ton of points, as both offenses rank near the top of the NFL in points scored.

These two teams met way back in Week 2, as the Cowboys went on the road to beat the Skins 27-23. The win was the first of Prescott’s career, as he threw for nearly 300 yards in the game. It was just the beginning of what has been a whirlwind season for the youngster, who was handed the starting job when Tony Romo broke his back in the preseason.

Prescott’s development has been aided by Elliott, who has burst onto the scene in his rookie season. The Ohio State product leads the NFL in rushing by over 100 yards, and has done a nice job running behind one of the best offensive lines in football. Dallas is a legitimate Super Bowl contender and can end the Skins hopes for a second straight NFC East title on Thursday.

Highlights

Highlights will be posted throughout the game.

Three Stars Prediction

1. Ezekiel Elliot

This could be a monster game for Elliott, who will be playing in front of a huge television crowd on Thanksgiving Day. He has been one of the better stories of the NFL season, and Thursday could bring his highest rushing total of the season. The Redskins are going to struggle against the Cowboys offensive line, and Elliott is going to reap the benefits.

2. Kirk Cousins

Dallas does not do a great job against the pass, and Cousins has shown to be one of the better passing threats in the NFC. He takes a ton of chances downfield, and will likely hit DeSean Jackson or Jamison Crowder for a big gainer in this one. He has also done a nice job working Jordan Reed into  the mix this season, and Reed could find the end zone on Thursday.

3. Dak Prescott

Prescott is fully entrenched as the starting quarterback, as Tony Romo has been delegated to backup duty. He has been extremely careful with the ball this season, tossing only two interceptions on the year. He is going to be able to exploit the weaknesses on the Redskins defense, and will likely hook up with Jason Witten for a Turkey Day score.

Odds

The Dallas Cowboys are favored by seven points at home this week, as the odds makers figure they will run their winning streak to double-digits. Neither team plays consistent offense, so the line of 51 actually seems a bit low for this one.

Next Week

The Cowboys will play another Thursday game next week, as they travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings. Washington will stay on the road, as they will take on the Arizona Cardinals in the desert in Week 13.
