Quick fix 2017 NFL Mock Draft

You know what I love? The NFL Draft. You know what I love more? Setting unrealistic expectations for my team based off what I think is the right thing to do in juxtaposition with what the experts like Jon Robinson see as the best way to run the team.

That is why NFL mock drafts are the best marriage of those two things.

Last week, I did this and I really liked the results. It showed what the Tennessee Titans needed to do to better.

It also showed which positions got them beat. Now, I can take a look at what will make them better, not just what lost them a particular game.

All eyes on the Chicago Bears win this week, and spoiler alert the defense will be addressed early and often.

As always, thanks to Fanspeak for making this much easier thanks to their mock draft simulator.

1st round pick: Jonathan Allen DL, Alabama

I like Allen more than I liked Leonard Williams coming out. Where I thought Williams was more of a one-note player, Allen is much more versatile.

On running downs, he can beat offensive linemen with power, leverage and hand use (the things that make Joey Bosa great). On passing downs, he have initial quickness and a variety of pass rush moves.

The Tennessee Titans need better play from their linebackers and defensive backs. I think this class is deep enough at both positions to just take defensive BPA here. Pressure covers all wounds, and Allen is a three down player who makes an immediate impact.

1st round pick: Jourdan Lewis CB, Michigan

One of three CBs I would love the Titans to draft this year. Lewis is productive, physical, confident, and is an eraser in coverage. I have talked about him before, so I won’t harp on about Lewis.

3rd round pick: Chidobe Awuze CB, Colorado

Awuze is stereotyped as a pure zone corner, but he does too much to be pigeonholed. He is disruptive at the catch point and has quick feet, which generally means that you can be fit into more than one scheme.

Even if he is better suited for a zone defense. The Titans are currently using a defense that is generally predicated on corners playing zone rather than man.

3rd round pick: Jalen Reeves-Maybin LB, Tennessee

Fanspeak lists JRM as an EDGE player, but that is not a good description of his skills. He is one of the best sideline-to-sideline linebackers in the country when healthy, and despite having some arm/shoulder issues he would be a steal here.

Honestly, his role with the Titans would probably start out as a nickel/dime linebacker to get Avery Williamson off of the field. If they think he can be more than maybe in 2018 he moves to the full time spot opposite Williamson or takes his place.

Right now though, I think the Wesley Woodyard is playing better than any LB on the team, so you can’t put him on the chopping block.

4th round pick: Zay Jones WR, Eastern Carolina

I mean, I had to. As bad as the defense was, I feel like this would be a lock here. I think the Titans are almost guaranteed to walk away from this draft with either Corey Davis, Zay Jones, John Ross, Taywan Taylor, or Amba Etta-Tawo.

While Jones may not offer the speed element that the Titans really need, but with the work Marcus Mariota is doing with a physical route runner like Rishard Matthews, having a similar player in Jones would be great.
