Public intoxication charge dropped against Colts' Gill

Indianapolis police have dropped a public intoxication charge against Colts defensive lineman John Gill, who was arrested early Sunday after officers found him passed out in a ditch.

Police spokesman Brian Dixon said he didn't know why prosecutors decided not to file charges against the 23-year-old Gill, who has been released from jail.

The Marion County prosecutor's office didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.

Team president Bill Polian said Monday that he expects the NFL to place Gill in a roster category that would keep him inactive this season.

A police report said Gill tried to stand up but kept falling over. Gill, who is in his second year with the team, played in two games as a rookie out of Northwestern.
