Steelers’ Tomlin refuses to address report of Pouncey’s second surgery

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey reportedly underwent a second surgery on his broken ankle.

If Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey did indeed have a second surgery on his injured ankle, head coach Mike Tomlin isn’t confirming it.

"I’m not playing the Pouncey social media game," Tomlin said with a smile during his media availability Tuesday. "I have no announcements regarding any of those list guys whether it’s Maurkice Pouncey or Mike Adams, or anybody else we got on any obscure list."

Reports emerged last week that Pouncey did indeed undergo a second procedure on his ankle to remove a plate and clean out an infection, and an Instagram post showing Pouncey in a hospital bed seemed to confirm it. Tomlin had denied previous speculation of an operation a few days earlier.

Surgery went well! 😊🙏🏼 #HospitalSelfie

Pouncey is currently on short-term injured reserve. He’ll be eligible to return after eight games, but a second surgery would likely extend his absence.

Tomlin’s refusal to address the status of Mike Adams also seems to indicate that the offensive tackle is still not ready to come off the physically unable to perform list after offseason back surgery.
