Report: Steelers' Pouncey may miss entire season due to infection, surgery required

Published Oct. 15, 2015 3:57 p.m. ET

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey may not make it back on the field this season after experiencing complications with his surgically-repaired leg.

Pouncey reportedly underwent a second surgery because an infection had set in, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Doctors needed to take out the metal plate in Pouncey's leg to clean out the infection.

Pouncey has been on the team's injured reserve/designated to return list since fracturing his left fibula during the preseason. He reportedly underwent surgery at the time, but was hopeful to return when first eligible in Week 9 against Oakland.

NFL.com's Rand Getlin also reported that Pouncey's return to the field would likely be delayed due to complications. Backup center Cody Wallace has started all five games in Pouncey's absence.
