James Harrison: Landry Jones is our QB now

Published Oct. 18, 2015 6:41 p.m. ET

If Ben Roethlisberger isn't able to make it back on the field in Week 7, Landry Jones has veteran linebacker James Harrison's vote to start in Kansas City.

Harrison proclaimed Jones the team's starting quarterback after the third-stringer rescued the Steelers' offense from the doldrums against Arizona on Sunday. Pittsburgh, which had just two field goals until Michael Vick exited  early in the third quarter with a hamstring injury, scored 19 points the rest of the way with Jones.

Jones, in his third season but making his first NFL appearance, hooked up with Martavis Bryant for a pair of touchdowns. The former fourth-round pick out of Oklahoma completed eight of 12 passes for 168 yards, compiling a 149.3 quarterback rating.

It's been a long road since those days at Oklahoma," Jones told reporters. "I'm just so thankful, just blessed to get in there and finally play the game again."

Long road, indeed, but considering how badly the offense has struggled with Vick, don't be surprised if Jones gets his first NFL start if Roethlisberger is unable to return from his knee injury next Sunday against the Chiefs.
