Mark Sanchez has concerning preseason debut

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez got the start in the preseason opener, with Sam Bradford sitting, and he struggled to move the offense. Maybe it was rust or maybe it was the fact that he was never given a fair shake to win the Eagles' starting job, but Sanchez was off on Sunday.

Sanchez played two series with the first team offense that were highlighted by overthrows and inaccurate pass attempts. Sanchez finished 2 of 7 for 52 yards with one touchdown. Even on his two completions, receivers Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor had to make acrobatic plays just to come down with the receptions.

"He had a couple high throws," Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said of Sanchez's debut to reporters, per the Philadelphia Daily Inquirer. "He needs to get his feet set a little bit. But I thought he played with good tempo. . . . I'm sure he'd like a couple of those throws back."

Sanchez may never get another opportunity to work with the first team offense during the preseason. Projected starter Sam Bradford continues to make strides in his recovery from a torn ACL, and he could be ready to lead the first team unit as soon as the next preseason game.
