Peyton tops Tebow in NFL jersey sales

Published May. 29, 2012 1:00 a.m. ET

After taking his job as Denver Broncos quarterback, Peyton Manning now has beaten Tim Tebow to the top spot for the best-selling jersey in the NFL.

The league said Tuesday that Manning's Broncos jersey and Tebow's New York Jets jersey have sold more than any other over the past two months on NFLShop.com, followed by those of rookies Robert Griffin III of the Redskins and the Colts' Andrew Luck.

But according to The Washington Post, Griffin's jersey has been the top seller for the month of May. The report also said that the overall figures were somewhat misleading, as they record sales from April 1 to May 28, but rookie jerseys did not go on sale until April 26.

It's not the first time Redskins fans have gotten this excited about a new recruit. Donovan McNabb's jersey was the second-best seller in the league after he joined Washington from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010.

Four more quarterbacks made it into the top 10 for sales over the two months, with Eli Manning (Giants) at fifth, Aaron Rodgers (Packers) sixth, Tom Brady (Patriots) eighth and Cam Newton (Panthers) ninth.

San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis had the best-selling jersey for a non-quarterback, coming in at seventh, while Steelers safety Troy Polamalu rounded out the top 10.
