Paxton Lynch throws 57-yard TD pass to Jordan Taylor (video)

Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch found receiver Jordan Taylor for the 57-yard touchdown pass in Thursday’s NFL preseason game.

Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Paxton Lynch was taken by a team looking to try to fill the void left by superstar Payton Manning. On Thursday night, Lynch showed more of his potential in a preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals.

It was just the first quarter of the Week 4 preseason action, but Lynch was able to pull off a highlight-worthy play. He found receiver Jordan Taylor for a nice touchdown pass. The NFL’s Twitter page quickly spotlighted the play.

On a second down situation, Lynch threw towards the outside for his receiver. From there, Taylor simply broke a tackle, eluded a few defenders, and then went the distance. It ended up being a 57-yard touchdown pass on Lynch’s first pass of the game.

At just 22 years old, Lynch still has quite a journey ahead to establish himself. However, on the Broncos’ depth chart, one has to believe he will have a quick ascension to the starting role. Right now the team has Trevor Siemian and Mark Sanchez ahead of him. However, Lynch has looked good in the preseason and there’s been some talk of Sanchez being moved.

One of the knocks against Lynch so far has been his size. In a Denver Post report, head coach Gary Kubiak noted, “In the gun, he’s such a big and long guy, he gets too deep with these NFL edges, which he’s not used to. He’s so long, that when he drops, he ends up about a yard and half deeper than Mark or Trevor.”

The answer to that is to adjust his positioning, for now, Kubiak added. With time, will come the experience. Lynch already seems to have the necessary skills to be the future QB for a storied franchise, just based on plays like he made early Thursday night.
