USC removed the interim tag from Clay Helton's position as new head football coach.

He might not've been their top coaching choice, though. Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio rebuffed the Trojans' advances when they approached him about the opening, according to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News.

There was once a time where the Trojans job was easily the better opportunity for a head coach. That could still be the case — but a USC alum like Del Rio won't be the one to find out.

Instead, the southern California native will stick with his other dream job and keep rebuilding the new-look Raiders.
