The NFL Draft might be coming to Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers are throwing their cheeseheads into the ring to join several other teams bidding to host the NFL Draft in 2019, 2020 or 2021, per ESPN's Jason Wilde.

Team president Mark Murphy announced the decision at a shareholders meeting on Thursday.

"We think it'd be great for the league to have the draft here and celebrate the smallest market in the NFL," Murphy said.

One hiccup, as ProFootballTalk's Michael David Smith notes, is the relatively small volume of hotel rooms in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The NFL requires that a host city have a certain number available to accomodate league personnel, players and media.

A quick review of the hotels in Green Bay shows that there's a Hilton, Hyatt Regency, Radisson, all the way down to the Super 8, which still has generally positive reviews on TripAdvisor. Of course, there's still time for Green Bay to build between now and 2019.

Commissioner Roger Goodell said that it's "very likely" that in 2017 the draft won't return to Chicago. In 2015, Chicago became the first city to host the event other than New York, which began hosting it in 1965. The frontrunner for 2017 is Philadelphia but that has not yet been confirmed.

Other cities vying for the draft and its attendant economic boost include Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles and Pittsburgh.
