Sanchez to Santonio: Be my Valentine

Published Feb. 15, 2012 12:00 a.m. ET

On Valentine's Day, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez worked on repairing his frayed relationship with his top wide receiver, Santonio Holmes.

Sanchez sent a tweet to his star pass catcher, asking, "santonio10 you want to be my Valentine?" The Twitter post included a picture of a heart-shaped box of cookies.

It was Sanchez's first tweet since the Jets' season ended with three straight losses, sparking questions in New York about whether the 25-year-old is still up to the task of being a franchise quarterback.

The Jets' season ended in Miami with a Week 17 loss in which Holmes was benched for the final minutes after arguing with teammates in the huddle. One Jets player called Holmes a "cancer" after the game, while running back LaDainian Tomlinson called the relationship between Sanchez and Holmes "as bad as I've ever been around."

Despite the issues, the Jets are sticking with Holmes, and he is set to make $15 million in guaranteed money over the next two seasons.

Owner Woody Johnson said last month he was hoping to sit down with Sanchez and Holmes in hopes of getting them on the same page.
