Jets WR Brandon Marshall likely to be shadowed by Vontae Davis

When the New York Jets square off against the Indianapolis Colts on Monday night, their best receiver will likely be shadowed by the Colts' best cornerback.

Brandon Marshall is the Jets' top receiving threat for Ryan Fitzpatrick, so it's understandable that the Colts would put their best cover corner, Vontae Davis on him. According to Mike Wells of ESPN, that's likely to be the case.

"It’s the same thing when you get a player that can make plays or you can take them and put them on their best receivers," Colts defensive coordinator Greg Manusky said. "It’s those quality players that can lock down a guy or they have to make the offense alter their plan. Vontae did a good job last week. We’re expecting him, wherever we put him, to have a great game."

Davis is not only the best corner on the team, but he's one of the best in the league. He hasn't allowed a touchdown pass thrown his way since 2013. It will be a challenge for Fitzpatrick to attack Davis on the outside, but with Marshall's size, it's a matchup he can certainly win. Marshall played well against another great cornerback last week in Joe Haden, when he piled up six catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.

The Colts are beat up at cornerback with Greg Toler and Darius Butler expected to be sidelined, so throwing the ball elsewhere might be the best option for Fitzpatrick.
