One of the biggest concerns for the New York Jets to start the season was the struggles of Darrelle Revis. Did him being out of shape contribute to his struggles?
In Week 1, Revis was burned by Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green. While Green is an elite receiver, it was concerning to see Revis struggle. The next week, Revis was burned on a fly pattern by Marquise Goodwin.
Recently, Revis has come out and admitted that he wasn’t in the best of shape to start the season.
“I was a little banged up with the wrist surgery, and then coming into the season, I had a little bit of a weight problem,” Revis said on Inside the Jets via All22.com. “I was trying to get my weight down, and then the first couple games went by so fast, I couldn’t really get in my rhythm. Then the hamstring came.”
While trying to get back in shape, Revis had his hamstring act upon him. The strained hamstring injury resulted in him missing the game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Since returning from the hamstring injury, Revis has looked much better for the Jets against the Arizona Cardinals and Baltimore Ravens.
If Revis is getting back to 100% in terms of his conditioning and wrist injury, that will be a very good thing for the Jets. Due to the 2-5 start, there is very little room for error for the Jets for the remainder of the season. Due to the ineffectiveness of the offense, the Jets need Revis and the defense to be elite if they want to salvage their season.
