Report: Will Beatty to return to Giants, could practice early next week

It looks like the New York Giants could see the return of the best offensive lineman from a pectoral injury sooner than expected. Per NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Beatty is expected to return to the team and could resume practicing early next week.

In 2014, advanced analytics and individual player charting source Pro Football Focus graded Beatty as the Giant's best offensive lineman overall. He allowed just 32 total quarterback sacks, hits and hurries all season.

While the Giants' interior offensive line has been a strength in 2015, they have struggled in pass protection on the outside with offensive tackles Ereck Flowers and Marshall Newhouse. The two tackles have combined to allow 35 quarterback sacks, hits and hurries combined through just five games.

When Beatty does return to the field, the Giants have several options to explore along the offensive line. If he returns to his old position at left tackle, Flowers could be switched to right tackle or sent to the bench if they deem Newhouse a better option. The Giants could also decide to use Beatty at right tackle in order to avoid disrupting Flowers' rookie development, but keep in mind Beatty has only ever played on the left side.
