Giants' Victor Cruz on practice field for first time since setback

Published Oct. 22, 2015 10:10 a.m. ET

New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz was on the field during the portion of the team's Wednesday practice that was open to the media. This is the first time Cruz has been at practice since he suffered a setback with his calf injury in late September.

Cruz did not participate in 7-on-7 or 11-on-11 team drills, instead he was limited to team stretching and side individual work. However, this is still an excellent sign because Cruz reportedly underwent an MRI on Wednesday. His practice participation would suggest that the MRI showed no further damage.

Head coach Tom Coughlin refused to update Cruz's status on Tuesday, and he made no further mention of him on Wednesday. Cruz was initially targeting a comeback in early October before his setback. Shortly after, he took a platelet-rich plasma injection in his troublesome calf -- a process that had a projected recovery time of 2-6 weeks.
